This unit is in the high plains desert and the Sierra Madre Mountain Range in the south-central part of the state. This area has a lot of BLM land and state land and also contains some parts of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest. A healthy herd of elk is present in this unit and success rates are generally pretty good here for a general hunt. The bulk of this unit is composed of broken prairie type lands while the eastern edge of very mountainious and timbered.
Hunters can expect moderate to rugged terrain with elk typically found in the National Forest. This is a big hunt area with a lot of country to hunt and hunters should be prepared to cover some ground in search of herds.
