Located in the central part of the state and made up of high plains desert and the Ferris Mountain Range, this unit has large amounts of BLM and State lands. A small but very healthy population of elk can be found here and those lucky enough to have a tag here can be in for a great hunt.

This small area gives hunters lots of country to hunt and has moderate/rugged terrain with elk located mostly in the timbered Ferris Mountains.

This unit runs from high desert plains along Wyoming Highway 220, south through the Ferris Mountains to County Road 100 on the south. The area is gently contoured at lower elevations and changes to extremely steep and rugged terrain in the Ferris Mountains. The typical elk habitat in this unit is fairly isolated and hunters can generally hone in on likely areas to check very quickly.

Public access is good and several well-maintained roads and a network of BLM roads and smaller 2-tracks can be found here. The Ferris Mountains can be difficult to access but access is made easier with four-wheel-drive vehicles or ATVs. Plan for a long hike to access areas where elk can be found. The area is bordered by U.S. Highway 287 and Wyoming Highway 220 on the west and north, County Road 497 on the east and County Road 100 on the south.

The Ferris Mountains are made up of timbered slopes mixed with upland areas covered by sagebrush, grass and mountain shrubs. Timber stands have Douglas fir, subalpine fir, spruce, lodgepole pine, limber pine, aspen and scattered locations of Rocky Mountain juniper.

Rawlins and Casper are the closest towns to the unit and offer many options for lodging, groceries, gas and other amenities. Camping is allowed on all public land for up to 16 days in one location. There are no designated campgrounds located in the unit. Hunters can camp in remote locations.
