BEFORE ANY CROSSING
Be a safe hunter. Remember that safe hunters always first unload their firearms before crossing an obstacle, then reload after the obstacle has been safely crossed.
Crossing a fence when hunting alone
Step 1.When crossing a fence or other obstacle by yourself, first unload your firearm.
Step 2.Protect the muzzle from debris and place your firearm on the ground. Point the muzzle in a safe direction away from where you plan to cross the fence.
Step 3.Cross the fence staying away from the muzzle, then retrieve your firearm. Check the barrel for obstructions, load, engage the safety and continue your hunt.
Crossing a fence when hunting with another person
Step 1.When crossing a fence or other obstacle with another hunter, first unload all firearms. Pass your firearm to the other hunter with the action open and visible.
Step 2.Once the second hunter is safely holding both firearms, the first hunter may cross the fence.
Step 3.When safely across, the second hunter hands the unloaded firearms to the hunter who has crossed the fence. Always point the muzzle in a safe direction.
Step 4.While the muzzles are still pointed in a safe direction, the second hunter can now cross the fence.
AFTER ANY CROSSINGNow that you've crossed your obstacle safely, load your firearm, engage the safety and continue your hunt.
