Camouflage might be the first essential when you think of hunting clothing, but even more important is hunter orange. Also known as blaze orange, it is ALWAYS required when hunting medium- to large-size game animals. A color not present in the natural world, fluorescent orange is an excellent safety measure, clearly visible in both bright sunlight and poor lighting conditions.
When hunting big game or upland birds (e.g., partridge, quail) make sure you have blaze orange coverage on your front, back, both sides and head when you are in the field. When hunting waterfowl and turkey, only wear hunter orange when going to and coming from your hunting location. Be sure to check local regulations for specific hunter orange requirements.
Big game hunter
Orange camouflage provides high visibility to other hunters and effectively breaks up the outline of the human form. It’s the perfect mix of safety and concealment. Be sure to check local hunter orange regulations before going on a hunt.
Upland bird hunter
Most common in fields and in groups, upland bird hunting requires hunter orange to indicate your own presence and see where others are located. Chaps help protect your legs when walking through thick brush.
Turkey hunter
Turkeys and waterfowl have great eyesight and the smallest movement can spook them. Use a camouflage that blends with the habitat where you are hunting as well as a face mask to cover any bare skin. Remember to wear hunter orange when entering and leaving your location.
