Wynoochee is a big unit for District 17; although it is dominated by private timber companies, there are scattered sections of public in the form of National Forest, state, GH County and Olympic Wildlife Areas. This unit runs just south of Wynoochee Lake in the north, all the way to Hwy 12 in the south between the towns of Hoquiam, Aberdeen and Montesano. The various industries with large land holdings offer various programs and permits for hunter access.

While there are lots of deer in this unit, there are also a lot of hunters.

This unit has a rolling conifer forest that has seen a lot of clearcut activity, and has been replanted. The oldest age-class of timber is located in the limited areas where slopes can be steep, typically in the north and just east of the town of Humptulips.

The majority of this unit is private land, however, the various large private landowners offer public access programs. Check in with Weyerhaeuser, Green Diamond Resource, and Rayonier Timber to see what they offer.

Conifer forests are highly farmed for timber and are in various stages of regrowth. There are also orchards, tree farms, and vegetable farms in this unit.

Limited primitive camping on National Forest land is allowed for the majority of the year, however, various fire bans and forest road closures may be in effect, so double check any restrictions or permits necessary prior to your trip. Also, some overnight camping may be allowed on certain Rayonier access permits and is worth checking into. If you are more interested in a bed and a shower and staying closer to gas stations, restaurants, and a grocery store, your best options are Hoquiam, Aberdeen and Monetsano.
